Good afternoon,
My name is Steven Pollestad and reside at Taylor, ND. Although I am a fourth generation Hereford breeder, it has become apparent to me especially in the last year, just how little I actually know about our breed both old information and new. In order to remedy a fraction of my ignorance, I have been collecting old books on Herefords and doing a lot of research of the breed, which is how this site/forum came up. Thank you for having it here.
I like to do pedigree research as far back to the beginning as I can get, partly because it's enjoyable and partly because if you don't know exactly where you came from, sometimes it's difficult to know where you are going.
We don't maintain a website, but there are some photos of our cattle under my name on facebook for those that may wish to look.
Thank You and have a great day,
Seven W.Pollestad

Good Morning,
Thanks to all who have posted, it is good to find so many people that I know. If, in the future, I forget which handle goes to which person, please don't be offended, I'm a Norwegian you know. I may need to write a list.
The 9A bull does a good job for us, no question, he breeds on well in daughters and granddaughters both.
The best 943 son that I have is pictured on facebook. I can put it up here when I figure out how to post photos.

Welcome to Hereford talk. I hope you will get involved in this as well as other discussions to come. There is always controversy, but as an extension geneticist you can have a national and international voice here. If I recall you have a lifelong history with Herefords? Tim

Shoot, guys, I was fixin' to tell Bob that we eat academics for lunch here! And that we always have a hard time cleaning them because they are usually so full of sh__.
Seriously, welcome Bob. I certainly would like to hear input from someone who genuinely has a cow-calf focus. Too often, it seems that folks in your profession get lost in the auction sales, field days, other hoopla, and interaction with their coworkers/peers on campus, then forget about the genuine problems and issues faced by the cow-calf producer.

Hi I'm Dave Kinkead and I farm in Iowa and run cattle on the home farm in Missouri. I'm a welder either raised cattle or welded most times both. I raised registered Herefords in the 80's to the 2000's got out in 2001. Run straight commercial Herefords now selling feeder calves. I AI to L1 and polled bulls.

Hi Bob Welcome. It will be good to have someone with your experience and scientific background on here to give information. I believe we met a few years ago when we were both on the BIF board. Again good to have you here. Byron.

My name is Brett Joplin. My wife and I live in Roff, OK with our three boys. I am obsessed with Hereford cattle and history of the breed. I love reading old Hereford Journals and any other historical items I can get my hands on. I've got a small herd of both registered Hereford and commercial cattle. With the exception of five heifers that I recently purchased from Richard Day, all of my current registered cattle are Lents Anxiety 4th Herefords.

Welcome aboard Brett. Quite a bit of Hereford History right down the road from you. Is the Turner Ranch Headquarters still accessable? We really enjoyed working there in the early 70's. Are you acquainted with Tom Harris at Mill Creek?

Thanks. Yes, I've seen the HQ from the dirt road, but I don't know any of the Jacobs family (or whoever lives there now). When you worked there, was it WinRock? I'd love to hear about that sometime. No, I've only read Mr. Harris's name in some old publications. I knew that he lived nearby, but I've never met the man.
I've been looking back through some of the threads here, and I really enjoy seeing your cattle. I'd love to see them in person some day. Take care.

Yes it was Winrock Farms when I went to work there in 1970. Gene Brinkman and Bob Loughery bought the ranch and cattle in January of 1972 and changed the name back to Turner Ranch. We would love to have you visit us any time.

I'm William Miller from North Battleford Saskatchewan Canada. I grew up on mixed farm in Ont. Had 25-30 dairy cows,125 beef cows that were reg hereford till 68/69 then dad used and reg simme till farm was sold in 90. Had 450 to 500 head feedlot. And up to 300 sheep. After college (82) I worked as a herdsmen for both hereford and simmental show herds till 92 when I started working as herdsmen on dairy farms. They were top end herds where the goal was to put bulls in AI units. Then moved to Sask in 2005 and worked in grain export since. Looking at buying a farm this summer and ether in the fall or spring adding horned hereford. Here to try to get caught up on herefords today. I know there's good bad and ugly. I've played the # games and the show ring. However the good cattle always will be needed as a base for # and show cattle if you're looking pass tomorrow.
