I think new members should introduce themselves, I liked it when we all knew each other, that way discussions were always kept civil without the need for a moderator. Steinerherefords, do you care to introduce yourself? No but I'll play along... Registered Herefords from the great showring. Started in 2005 when my Ag teacher wanted to show. So I showed for him for a year. Got a loan through the FFA loan program and bought 5 head. Now running about 30 head.

Hi everyone I'm Christopher Will, my family and I have Hidden Meadow Farms in Lost Springs Ks. We have been raising Herefords since 2000. We run 60-70 cow, with about half of them being purebred Horned and Polled Herefords. The balance of the herd is made up mainly Simmental or percentage sim, with some commercial cow and club calves.
Most of our Horned herd goes back to either Tom Granzow or Mill Creek cows. The Polled herd mostly Valek or Margaete Riffle genetics. We breed most of cows threw AI, breed for mainly performance and maternal traits. We also breed a few head every year for show cattle for my daughters show calves. Some of the sires we have been using lately are, Sensation, 0132X, Custom Made, 789T, and World Wide.
The rest of our non Hereford herd is bred for purebred or percentage sim and clubby to sale into the show ring. We sale a few bulls every year both Hereford and Simmental. We try to offer a couple bull every year in the Kansas Spring Beef Expo bull sale.

Hello everyone,
I'm Rudy, obviously, came here to see if I could do a little more research on the breed since I've never really owned but a few commercial-tier Herefords and I knew nothing of their pedigrees other than that they looked nice and could raise a good calf. Me and my father have been raising primarily registered Beefmaster cattle since the early 90s, having had small groups of commercial. Sold the herds when the drought hit us here in South Texas around 2008 and took a short break while we burnt some of our money on race horses. The state sued the commission this past year and it all turned into a mess, luckily I had spoken to a gentleman who gave me a heads up on the whole situation and we pulled out before the poo hit the fan and started rebuilding our herd in 2012. Now that I have a good group of BMs we were looking to start building a solid commercial herd and purchased a group of heifers to start off with just so we could start producing some income to fund the future prospects.
Now that we have our bases covered on that, I recently saw and fell in love with the Star 5 Santa Gertrudis/Hereford cross for both their looks and their traits. Being down here in TX I think they are the best thing since sliced bread for a commercial producer and would like to start out small to do some experimenting. Most of the ones I have seen are just bred commercially and while I'm sure some thought has gone into the pedigree, I doubt they are being bred for specific things other than "weigh this much by this date and taste good". My current idea is to purchase some solid Hereford heifers (which is why I need to figure out what is the best for what I'm aiming to do) and AI them to a top Gert bull in order to produce what someone might consider a top class breeding female. I will be making a thread soon to discuss those ideas further with you ladies and gentlemen who I'm sure are a wealth of knowledge on your breed and might have something I'm looking for.
Thanks for taking the time to read my intro and I hope you all have a wonderful 4th!

Hello! Shiloh shores from park hill, Oklahoma. Just got my first registered herefords last October. Started with 10 and hope to add to it every year! Hard to find heifers tho or cows! But I'm trying to find some. I bought a bull from Richard day herefords in roff Oklahoma and in June bought a bull from deewall herefords, a doc son out of a cow that is 14 years old. Super excited about him! He is a game changer for me. He is thick and muscled and docile and if he continues the legacy of his mom and dad he will be here for a long time. Looking forward to seeing him grow and how he produces. My first 10 cattle had 9 Bulls lol so won't be much growing this year! Hope to meet some more good folks in the hereford breed and talking cattle with others from other places and other opinions! The deewall family are super people and would go there a lot if I was closer and just talk and learn from them. I am young farmer trying to get into the hereford cattle business's full time, I am a pe teacher on the side! Thankful to be on here and thankful to be living in the USA!

It was our pleasure to have you visit and purchase a bull. It is so very nice to have young breeders so enthused about Hereford cattle. We look forward to continuing our friendship.

Hello all, my name is Tim. I reside in the northern Piedmont region of North Carolina (fescue country). I am pretty new to cattle, I have had a small herd of mixed up cows for about 5 years now. I have always liked Herefords (I personally have to enjoy looking at the cows in my pasture) and since I am not totally reliant on cattle for profit (I have an off farm career) I can have what I like. My son has shown an interest and he loves Herefords, so we are in this together! I currently have 3 commercial Hereford heifers. One I have no idea of her bloodlines, but the other two were sired out of a Bennett Revolution bull, and I was told the dams had Victor Domino blood in them. I am small, and without a lot of finances, so my plans are to have a small (15-20) herd of nice Hereford females and run an Angus bull over them for baldies...which are the only thing that sells in this area. I was at an auction that had a lot of bulls, one of which was a Hereford that I personally felt was one of the best bulls there..and they practically had to give it away. Also, being small with no reputation, I don't think I can crack the seed stock side of things...so I'll live vicariously through you guys! Some things I am interested in learning, I see a lot of comments on here about show cattle vs. range cattle...I am very much interested in learning how to tell the two apart...as I don't want show cattle. I hope to post some pictures of my current females and would love the "pick them apart" comments as I make every effort to have a herd of commercial Herefords that anyone would be proud to own...its the only way I will learn. Anyway, thanks for allowing me to join and I look forward to gleaning all the information this site and its members provide!!

Hello!
We have about 30-head of Registered Hereford females; two herd sires, one a 955W son and the other a Trust X Logic/Revolution. We have been raising only Herefords since 1998. We're a 7th generation of livestock producers; Our grandfather raises Black baldies and Red baldies and runs a Hereford bull with them.
It's nice to meet you all! I love learning about other's opinions about hereford genetics.

We are Franklin and Christina Nash Wellington, Colorado
We have a small herd of registered and commercial Herefords that come from Deewall Family Herefords in Coldwater, Kansas. The breeding on our registered group goes back to my grandfather (Franklin Nash) and great-grandfather (Walter Nash) of Canon City, Colorado. Advance Domino/President Mischief bloodlines. Our commercial cows are a combination of Deewall and Nash breeding with genetics from the Par-Ker Ranch in Oklahoma
Our goal is to build our herd to 40-50 cows but in our area finding grass is a limiting factor. We sell a few bulls per year through private treaty, mostly going to high altitude commercial operations.
We look forward to being on Hereford Talk.

Hey, my name is Brent Creech, Taylor's Mill Farm, a Hereford Seedstock producer in Nash County, North Carolina. We have a three pronged approach to Hereford cattle. First is the Registered- Purebred portion where we are trying to improve and refine our idea of the ideal Hereford cow for our environment using all the tools and methods available to us. Secondly, we are producing what we call Hereford Plus which is a high percentage Hereford mixed with Dutch Beef Fresian. These are 3/4 to 7/8 Hereford from the Trask Herd and Dutch Beef Fresian from Tim Ohlde's herd. Lastly, we are producing a few Hereford Hybrids that we have been asked to produce by some local producers. The registered portion is about 75% of the herd, the Hereford Plus about 20% with the balance being Hybrids. We started this herd about 18 years back and realize that building a quality herd is a lifetime endeavor. We are learning every day and hope this Board will be another source of information in improving our herd. We love to have visitors to our farm and share our experiences. Check us out at www.tmfherefords.com
