Hello Zach tessier belfield north dakota I am third generation rancher our family has always been in the Comercial side of cows with my brother and I splitting the ranch in half I knew I had to diversify our buisness to be profitable so we bought 6 open registered hereford heifers ai to Durango 44u and fortune y848 and cleaned up with a registered black bull so we wouldn't have to pull tail hair for DNA testing calves we just know which ones are ai that way. Now this year we are rounding 18 female and we have plenty of recip cows to use if we choose to dive in head first. This year we will be having 20 registered calves from lego, catapult, sensation, domino, advance, and tundra. I eat sleep and dream hereford now days.

I think introductions are a good idea.
My name is James Hinshaw. My nickname since birth over 50 years ago is Stoney and that is what I go by on a daily basis. I live in Malcom, Iowa and currently have around 40 head of horned and polled Herefords cows. We are starting to enlarge the herd on a yearly basis by keeping back our heifers. That seems to be the cheapest way to build your herd. We breed in mid summer and calve in the spring. We always look forward to calving time.
Glenn stated below that he is Hereford-a-holic. I like that term and I am one too. Herefords are it for us. It's the only breed we want and will ever have.
Thank you for your time and I'm glad to be a part of this forum.

Crazy thing I came across your post James... I was just looking up a registration the other day curious to see who bought a female we bred (51A) from Charlie Johnson's dispersal sale and it appears that you did. Would love it if you could shoot me a message this spring after she calves and let me know how she's doing. We love to follow up and see how cattle we bred are doing for the herds they went to, Charlie bought her from us as a heifer and told us he liked how she turned out for him. We actually have a full sister to her set to have her first calf later this month too.

Hello all - New member here and a little background as introduction...
I'm Marilyn - my husband and I have been raising purebred/registered Herefords for years as 'Lenth Herefords' in NE Iowa. He and his father started the herd back in the late 1960's. It was originally started as a horned herd, we've evolved to a horned/polled base, using all polled herd sires now, mainly to meet the demands of our customers. We have a 75 cow spring herd and 25-30 fall calvers too, in order to provide cattle year round. We sell private treaty, using our website as our primary marketing tool - spending a lot of time to keep it very current. I grew up with cattle, Doug & I originally met showing cattle at the same county fair. After working off-farm for many years, I was able to quit my 'city job' a couple of years ago and now I'm in my 'dream job' of raising Herefords full-time along side of my husband. Records are very important to us, and I spend time not only on the day-to-day grunt-work in the pastures & barns, but also keeping detailed records, website updates, planning breeding decisions and working hard to keep improving our herd.
We love talking with other cattle-folks, having visitors, and trading and sharing information. I hope to be able to pick up ideas and share some of ours here.

Hi my name is Brian Fox from Newell, South Dakota
Family has been straight commercial Hereford cattle for four generations. I recently made the commitment of purchasing some registered Hereford cows to run along side my commercial herd. My goals are to create a registered herd that performs well on straight grass and cake diet. We don't feed hay unless the snow gets deep. Thanks for welcoming me to the forum. Cant wait to learn from everybodies advice.

Welcome to the forum. Will be interested to hear about your cattle. See Slagsvold uses some bulls from the Courtney's. Their cattle have intrigued me but haven't seen any in this country. Look like the cowman kind.

I think new members should introduce themselves, I liked it when we all knew each other, that way discussions were always kept civil without the need for a moderator. Steinerherefords, do you care to introduce yourself?
