My name is Jim Orman. My Wife, three kids, and I live in central Iowa where we run a small registered herd of our own and a larger registered herd for some other breeders on shares. My wife and I both work in town in addition to running the cows. My two oldest kids enjoy showing cattle very much especially my oldest son... but we also have the mindset that the heifers must always make productive cows when they are done showing Welcome to HT Jim! Small world, I think you aren't too far away from us. I found you on Facebook and you know a lot of the same folks I do it looks like, its been a long time but I think your wife might have even been in my 4-H club growing up.

Hello my name is Josh Lewis. I live in east TN with my wife and 3 kids. I have 30 commercial cows and just bought 2 nice reg Hereford heifers. I have always liked Hereford but black cows are easer to find in east Tn. The Hereford breeder was always bragging about disposition and I was always complaining about it. So here I am I plan to change the whole herd from black to red and I am excited.

Hello, my name is Phil Harvey, Jr. and I am a partner in B&H Herefords in Southern/Southeastern New Mexico. My family has had Herefords for 100 years, and Registered Herefords since 1938. We run our cattle in rocky, semi-arid country at about 6000 feet in NM, so we appreciate the doing ability, ruggedness, and soundness of Herefords!

Welcome Phil. Keep in mind that not all of us are politically correct, but there is still an exchange of information that can be valuable.

Good to see you here, Phil. I hope you will join in the discussions. The fact that you run some good Hereford cattle in "rough" country ought to provide a little different perspective.

Hello All,
I'm Joe Dan Ledbetter. I run about 20 head of horned and polled Herefords and about 20 recip cows in Wheeler, TX. I market my bulls and bred females through the Indian Mound Ranch production sale each fall. I sell a few show heifer prospects in the Curry Herefords Internet Sale and by private treaty. I've met some of the people in this forum personally and some I have not. Hope everyone had a great Summer and I'm looking forward to a great Fall.

Hey guys. Don't have much to do with the whole "cow" thing, but I live outside of town and bought my kid his first Hereford show heifer a couple of years ago. Didn't get her bred as she spent most of her time in the cooler. Got her flushed, though, to a Hereford looking clubby bull . . . which is a good thing as we lost the heifer from a bad tube job right before a show. Got a couple of bull calves out of the ET deal and they've been on creep (and a Holstein) all summer. They look great! And I'm now excited to get my money back from the heifer deal by going into the bull business. Really looking forward to some good, positive feedback and friendly advice.
Actually, none of that is true. . . just trying to get folks' goat. I'm Mike Fink, with Fink Polled Herefords, Bridgewater, South Dakota. Our family has been in the Hereford bull business since 1975.

Hello, my name is Zach Barta. My wife and two(third on the way) kids currently live in northeastern Utah. We moved here about two years ago to work in the oil fields. Mainly the schedule and pay that snagged me. We're trying to save up to get a place of own someday and be able to raise good quality cattle that are few and far between. We moved from north central Nebraska where I've lived and worked as a ranch hand the past fifteen years. We just had a hard time getting ahead enough to do our own thing, so I made the decision to leave what I loved knowing that soon enough I'd be able to have my own.
I have been researching and rifling through search engines finding pics and articles from past magazines and journals, mostly hereford journals from the early twentieth century, Perfection Fairfaxs' reigning time, and love the smaller framed wider based cattle. Now I know that from being a silent guest for quite some time that some of you guys will give me crap about this, but hey, if they weren't fed to be toads, they'd have been dang good cattle. This is the kind that I'd like to breed some day, smaller, wider, easy doing cattle. I really enjoy reading through your topics and discussions and love seeing the cattle that you all work so hard to breed up to your standards. I look forward to advice and discussions with you all.

Hi folks, I'm Brad from Ontario, Canada New to the cow game and we started with three bred (AI) heifers two registered - one not. Had three bull calves. sold the commercial cow/calf and now have just the two cow/calf pairs for the winter, Bull calves looks great and were sired by Churchill RedBull who seems more popular in the US than Canada. Been a steep learning curve but we are learning as we go. Always have found good info on these boards - Thanks
