Hello everyone, My name is Shiloh Doehring. I'm with Noack Herefords in Rockdale, Texas. We have a Facebook page, but please don't look at the website just yet(We've been working on getting it updated). I was doing some research online and this forum kept coming up, and it was very interesting and informative. It's nice to find honest, candid discussions about specific issues and specific lines.
My husband and I spent the last 2 years in Spencer, Nebraska. Vernie worked for Lowell Fisher (horned Herefords), and I worked for a vet clinic that was maybe 95% beef cattle. Vernie has a degree in Animal Science from College of the Ozarks, and I am 7 hours shy of an Ag Business degree with a minor in Animal Science from Sam Houston. (I know, I need to finish it)
My grandad had alzheimer's, and my grandmother didn't want to run the ranch, so they split the land between the 5 kids. Only 3 kids wanted to ranch, so the cows went 3 ways and the kids with cows rented the land from the kids without. I say kids, but these are my mom and her siblings. They're all in their late 40s and 50s and have jobs and lives established, so they asked us to come down to run the place. Now it's set up kind of like Hudgins Brahmas, with each ranch being a separate division of Noack Herefords.
We have about 260 cows, and are trying to build the herd back up to where it was when my grandad had it,as well as expand to use the extra land my uncles added to the place. After my grandad was diagnosed, they hired a manager who was perhaps better suited to commercial cattle, (that's the nicest way I can say it) and there is a marked difference between the younger and older cows. We have bought some new bulls, convinced them to start AIing again, and have a couple of cows picked out to flush. The cattle are mostly Line 1, with some Canadian influence. It's a lot of fun, and really what I always wanted to do, but didn't think I'd ever be able to. It's nice to meet y'all.

Glad you are here, shiloh. I had a nice conversation with your grandfather in Denver one year while watching the judging. I think it was 2003.

Thank you, you probably saw him on one of the last trips he made. Even though I'm the oldest grandchild, I was a little young to get to really know him before it was too late. I really enjoy hearing stories about him, especially from other Hereford breeders.

Hello! I am Beth Clappison and I am located in north east Oklahoma. I just have one registered Hereford bull that I used on my commercial cows but I am planning to get some registered females in the near future. I have about 40 cows, 4 of them are commercial Herefords and about half are black baldies that I bought this winter. I really like the temperaments of the Herefords, my bull is very gentle and all of the baldie heifers are also super gentle. Just got my first two calves from my bull this morning, a bull and a heifer They already look like really nice calves.

Yes they are. Or at least send me an email. They run the risk of getting banned the longer they wait to do it. I approve a lot of memberships "on the honor system"

Mark, glad you joined. I will have to warn you that some of the other people on this board are kind of opinionated. Tim

Thanks Tim. Good to hear from you again. I really appreciate your knowledge of the breed. Did you happen to make it to the stockdog trials last week?

Yes, watched about 3 dogs run. Really amazing the ability of dogs and handlers. As an observer, it didn't take long to get bored. The far end of the course was far enough away it was hard to really see all the dog/cattle interaction. The cattle were 6 weight blacks and there seemed to be one in each group that was unmanageable. When an animal puts its head up and tail in the air the dogs are beat from the beginning. I would like to see what can be done with a set of Herefords that are sensible.

Hello Herefordtalk group! My name is Judi Schlieckau from Loganville, Wisconsin. My husband and I are in partnership with our daughter, helping her get started with a small PB hereford herd. Our priority is getting some solid genetics, but our daughter is also showing her herefords thru FFA and WJHA/NJHA.
We currently have a mix of hereford/red angus, registered normande beef(from her last 5 years county fair projects) and a couple of polled hereford heifers she recently purchased.
My husband and I both grew up on a dairy farm so had little exposure to beef cattle. We are really enjoying getting to meet the many fantastic hereford families/breeders here in Wisconsin.
Appreciate all the great conversations and the sharing of knowledge.

Hello my name is Kenny Lee from Andalusia,Alabama. Started raising line 1 Herefords about15 years ago . Work full time and do the cow chores in the afternoons and weekends. Have used bulls from Debters, Holden's and Coleys currently using a 8050 son.. My goal is always to be learning more about the breed. The cattle that work and those that don't. Heat tolerance is a big factor this far south. Thanks for all the interesting conversations.

Good evening folks (or afternoon if on the west side ) I just joined the site and my wife and I are new to polled herefords. My grandparents had a small herd of horned herefords they ran a charlois bull with while I was growing up. After buying a small piece of land in s. East indiana we are trying to build a registered polled heteford herd up. We started with 2 bred heifers and a yearling from a reputable breeder in our area. (With cost of buying farm, equipment and building house on it we hit our yearly budget quick ) Trying to be particular as well with what we purchase. I hope to enjoy the knowledge and expierence from others in the breed and enjoying the life. Welcome to HT rodeohunter! you are not much over a couple hours from us, not that far away. It is a life to be enjoyed.

I know Charlie some, have been to a couple of their sales in the past with a good friend who was close friends with the Boyd's. No, I have not used anything from there with my line breeding program there has nothing been brought in here for quite some time. DM

My name is Jim Orman. My Wife, three kids, and I live in central Iowa where we run a small registered herd of our own and a larger registered herd for some other breeders on shares. My wife and I both work in town in addition to running the cows. My two oldest kids enjoy showing cattle very much especially my oldest son... but we also have the mindset that the heifers must always make productive cows when they are done showing
