Sometimes don't you just feel like someone hit you across the nose with a rolled up newspaper? It was just one of those days. I decided to check out the AHA site and I see...."New Spring 2011 EPD's are up!!". So I immediately have to feed my addiction...to both purebred cattle breeding and numbers...numbers, numbers....gotta compare those numbers. I hit the my AI bulls first.....71J?...yeah his numbers are hanging in there pretty nice...97349? Hey, the AHA brought him back to life...he's listed as a trait leader again....like a fine wine, his numbers get better with age. Next I move on to my younger bulls...the ones who's first numbers are coming in. 737? www.herfnet.com/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=232B21&2=232F50&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=5A5D5C232325202522&9=535B5B Hey, his numbers popped up a bit. Now, what about his flushmate brother up in Montana, 734? www.herfnet.com/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=232B21&2=232F50&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=5A5D5C232325202525&9=535B5A Wow, he popped up from 31 to 43, nice move!! I wonder which of his parents they moved up with him??? His old, 1975 born sire, the 8th? So, I click on him. No, his numbers never moved at all. Wait, do you suppose after all these years the AHA computer finally realized 737 and 734's dam, my 37G cow, should have a yearling epd of over 21? Is it possible?? So, with great antipation I click on the 37G cows name to bring up her newest numbers and......? What? www.herfnet.com/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=232B21&2=2420&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=5B5B585B5959202420 "No epds available"...WHAT? Then my mind drifts back....didn't this happen before? Yes, what was that about? I think back through all the paper work I am supposed to do for the TPR system and remember all the times I set those yellow sheets the AHA sends me aside saying to myself...'sure, I'll get right on that'...not. Oh yes, I think, that's right....I was supposed to account for the yearling info on those 2009 calves I culled off as feeders at weaning and the AHA has this nasty little way of reminding me that paying the dues and the TPR fees isn't enough, I actually have to complete ALL the aspects of WHR, or the powers that be will just flat out take my numbers away. And I NEED those numbers. I realize the AHA has just smacked me over the nose with a rolled up newspaper. I am mad, I am disgusted, but more than anything....I gotta find those blasted yellow sheets so I can get them numbers. Maybe I could just call them up and give them the numbers over the phone.....might be faster.......? But, why the 37G cow.......? Do, you suppose they knew I'd wanna see those numbers? Oh, man, they really know how to hurt a guy.

Are you still using 97349 or have you moved exclusively to the King Dominos?

I have quite a few 97349 granddaughters in my herd. Could you give me your honest assessment? I like them a lot. They are daughters of the L1 DOMINO 99496 bull. www.herfnet.com/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=232B21&2=232F50&3=56&5=2B3C2B3C3A&6=5B595B5A2359242322&9=515F5FDaughters are moderate frame, easy keeping, high volume cows. They milk well and have good udders. The udders tend to tilt some but the teat size is good. 99496 milk EPD went up to a 26, that's almost unheard of in a straight Miles City bull. Hows the 97349 daughters working for you???

I've got one 97349 daughter. She's not straight Line 1 - got some Mark Donald in her. She's probably the most moderate cow I own and does a great job - calves early, has a great udder, and stays in better shape than most.
She was one of three heifers I bought at the Grahmann dispersion - probably my least favorite of the three when I bought them, but she made the best cow, by far.
I honestly didn't care for the 97349 bull when he sold at that sale, but all those cattle looked rough. I had a case of buying fever and my money was burning a hole in my pocket or I'd came home empty from that sale.
Of course, I really like the 99496 bull. I liked the cattle that Cooper and Holden had by him - particularly the 3113N bull. Then seeing him in person and his progeny at Ken's just made me a bigger fan.

George About the only thing hehad going for him at the dispersion was a heart beat. When he sold in the 2000 Miles City sale, I thought he was the best I had seen in Miles City and he had great stock behind him. His thickness from hook to pins and his depth of quarter were outstanding and his overall package was rare. His calves are very good. His daughters have level udders. I plan to go back to him for a long time to come.
