Does anyone have experience with culling cows before weaning calves. Will it make a significant impact on the weight of the pre weaned calves?

It has been my experience with crossbred cattle that culling the cow before weaning the calf does significantly hurt the calf's weaning weight. In my opinion, if momma is a cull, the calf probably should be on the trailer with her, unless she is just really old.
