Since I have been encouraged to get on the board. I might as well share my platform.
#1 Openness and honesty are fundamental to the well being of the breed. To that end the AHA should have no tolerance for any funny business.
#2 We need to instill a spirit of cooperation between breeders to that end the AHA should not be involved in making value judgments between breeders. That means finding a replacement for EPDs that doesn’t involve across herd comparisons and replace shows with non competitive field days.
#3 Each member should be valued by the association and be made to feel that each dollar registering a calf has value. To that end, we need to find ways market surplus registered Herefords as direct to consumer beef.
#4 Lastly, we need to look out for the well being of the breed and the members as a whole. In particular, we need to leverage our numbers to ensure that we can still farm.
