You need to be an attorney from Iowa for that.

That one's pretty easy, the mother's scurred rather than horned or that's not his mother.

You would think someone would have checked this out already, a two year old bull being used AI. Same old AHA, nothing ever checked unless someone points out a problem, and someone said it's standard procedure. Exactly. It wouldn't take that much for someone with a computer code background (wouldn't be me though) to write a code that would flag this stuff in pedigrees for AHA and the breeder. Walmart has better quality control We just don't care about pedigree information anymore, right? If you can enter something like this wrong, what else can be entered wrong?

THR THOR 4029 is out of a horned cow and listed on ABS website as DNA tested homozygous polled. They also still list him as maternal power. If I remember right his MM epd dropped quickly as his daughters came into production. I have two daughters still. One raises a respectable calf..barely, then it blows up and passes everything to yearling weight. The other did a very good job with her first last year and is leading the way this year. Both polled but out of polled cows. I always questioned the fact being out of a horned cow.

If I am correct, the way to breed out scurs from a herd is to never use a scurred bull. Eventually they disapear. Or it may be time to create ta new breed, the Scurred Hereford.

The plot thickens I never looked him up on the AHA site, I remember him, he has a pointy head and scurs, of course I'm old and have no memory, so...

4029 is very scurred. While it should be technically possible to be Homo Polled and scurred one of his claims to fame is siring a horned Denver champion. He isnt listed as Homo on his pedigree so something is wrong there.(I wouldnt put too much weight on anything coming from Shaw's records however, every homo polled bull they use has horned calves listed). As was mentioned, both of these examples should have thrown up a simple flag when entering records. That's something that needs to be addressed, guess it needs to be more than just me asking for it.

Scurs appear in polled cattle, either homozygous polled or heterozygous polled. The horned gene is there but it doesn't express himself in presence of the dominant polled alele.

That one's pretty easy, the mother's scurred rather than horned or that's not his mother. I heard that Trust doesn't dehorn half of his calves like he should. I personally believe that he has a variation of the scur trait that is almost indistinguishable from a horn.

Not purebred Hereford? If you read the recently released IBERS research in which hundreds of Herefords worldwide were DNA profiled you will get the answer to Trust. It literally stands out as do some of its progeny. Also, check out the list of MD carriers!! Why?
