I remember reading in the Fortune magazine around the early or mid 60’s, an article about the seed company starting a Hereford breeding program. And if memory doesn’t fail me, their main criteria for selection was high birthweights, and there was even a picture of somebody weighing a Hereford calf. In retrospective, a train wreck. Does somebody knows more about their experience and the pedigrees involved?

Thank you! Didn’t remember about the composite. Wonder if the RX3 is still around.

Were still some RX3s around in the mid 1980's. . . They were called Perfection progeny.

Well, I really don't know, but according to the story you link above: "Researchers developed RX3s by breeding Red and White Holsteins to Herefords for the first cross and then crossbreeding those half-bloods to Red Angus." I can just picture a resulting goofball calf that looks like KLC RB3 Perfection.

Was Pioneer Hybrid Seed the parent company of Pioneer Beef Cattle (Polled Hereford ,Red Angus & Black Angus) prefix was PBC ? Yes that was the prefix they used. In the seventies they purchased an AI interest in RWJ Victor J3 859 a top performance bull at that time. PBC prefix was used on their Red Angus as well. Choctaw Chief was the primary Red Angus sire that was used in the line breeding program.
