Known By The Brand

All of life is one big branding,
Daily we burn a part of our mark,
When we reach the end of our time,
Our brand is complete and stark.

There are only two big outfits,
Up there along the great divide,
They'll tally the brands at roundup,
And our ownership they'll decide.

The one spread is a sorry mess,
I'm told it's bad as hell,
The other is the best anywhere,
And they will really treat you well,

I know which place I want to go,
And the brand I'll need to wear,
I'll work hard not to blotch it,
And burn my mark with extra care.

I have my great-grandfathers brand S backwards C on the right hip. It was originally CS but my great grandfather, Charlie Snyder, had to flip it over when brands in California became registered on the state level. The Strojan brand is S7 on the left hip.  I would like to know where my cattle go and how they perform.
