they're finally done with promoting Angus in their Hereford ads. Looks like they're promoting Simmi's now.

Nothing like breed pride, what an embarrassment.

From a commercial breeder standpoint the best thing that could be done for the breed is to work toward ending the ridiculous Hereford dock at the market. I have said or a long time if it wasn’t for that $% dock that there would be a whole lot of folks using Hereford genetics. We run predominantly Hereford cows and switched over a few years ago to using Hereford bulls after some issues with several Angus bulls. Liked the results of the straight bred Herefords but the markets don’t and even though our state does have a couple Hereford influence sales a year they always seem to time just right to hit a e en more down market. I am now in the process of going back to black bulls to give more options. For what it’s worth we are going to be using our version of “black Hereford” bulls along with Angus. As I like a Hereford or higher percentage Hereford for cows.

Somebody is making a lot of money on good Hereford cattle. When we started working with a broker instead of the salebarn, we went from getting a few cents under the market to getting a nice premium for good, real Hereford cattle.

Working with a broker to sell cattle is something that I have never heard of unless it’s like selling direct to a cattle order buyer and hoping tigers good price offer from them. Probably have to have a pot load of matched calves to be considered. It looks like state associations or field representatives from the AHA could work on coordinating some direct sales. I think if there was a easily accessible decent market for Hereford calves there would be a lot more demand for Hereford bulls and females.

The best form of advertisement is word of mouth.

Rockmillsherefords, well said. Would be funny if it wasn't so true. Hows the fires and drought doing over there Sudsy. Fires: All done. Finally and totaly extinguished mid February. Just to put their size into perspective, 80 times the size of the Californian fire of 2019 and 50% larger than the Amazon fires. Drought: Broken (mostly) by the very same fires which extinguished the fires. Some pockets of drought have only just received relief this pat week. Drought ran for 3 to 6 years in most places. Allegedly the worst drought since white settlement. My area, central NSW has been fortunate enough to receive just in excess of 9 inches over the past 8 weeks, which surpasses what I had received in the previous 20 months. Out of interest, I shall request Peter Hall to post some before and after photos this coming week. On the down side, I have 10 cows and calves this side of the drought, I went in with 180. Challenging times indeed. Thank you for your interest/concern. Regards Sudsy.
