The domain for Hereford Talk is expiring this month. I, in all likelihood, am going to let it expire and shut down the site. The world has evolved and with other social media there are more and better places to have any and all sorts of Hereford discussions.
The site has had its highs and lows. I’ve done my best to run it and have a legit ‘alternative source’ for Hereford news and discussions. I’ve made plenty of mistakes, for sure.
I’ve made lots of friends and a few enemies along the way. To the friends, I say thank you and I appreciate each of you and hope this is in no way the end of our friendship. To anyone who has been bothered or consternated by the site, I do apologize. I certainly never meant any particular person any disrespect or harm. We just will have to leave it as ‘agreeing to disagree’.
To quote the Grateful Dead ‘what a long strange trip it’s been’
And I’ll leave you all with a sincere and heartfelt quote from Roy Rogers:
Happy Trails to You......

Certainly lots of good things in Hereford Talk. Learned a lot and enjoyed reading most of the posts. I'm going to miss it! Thank you Glenn for your contribution.

Glenn, as you know, I hate to see your decision to shut HT down - from the historical perspective as much as anything. There are posts from posters and threads that will never be duplicated and that information may well be lost to those Hereford enthusiasts who come along later.
There has not been a book published that "updates" Hereford history since Ornduff's and Sweet's respective books. And we know, that time since is checkered history where the bad will be removed or whitewashed if left solely to the mainstream publication of the association or those who do their bidding. That was proven by the report of the Junior National in the HW where there was NO MENTION of the Grand Champion Steer or what occurred there. (Edited to add: I bumped the thread on HT regarding that incident back to the top. It is titled: "Speaking of Political Correctness!")
The Purity threads and the Australian "Trust" fiasco are two more examples. The HT forum has counterbalanced that rosy picture that the AHA has wanted to paint with some uncomfortable reports during its existence. I hate to see that record disappear. But I also understand your reasons for your decision, Glenn.
Godspeed to all those present and former HT posters (and lurkers) - even the ones that I have jousted and disagreed with over these years.

Thanks Glenn. We feel we know a lot of folks we would not have otherwise known.

Thank you Glenn for the effort you have put into this forum and it’s maintenance. Through it’s existence I’ve been able to form lasting and quality friendships all around the world and I hope and pray for all the members that they are kept safe in this ever changing world.

Dear Glenn,
Even though it disappoints me that you have decided to discontinue Hereford Talk, I can understand, at least in part, why you are doing so.
Please let me thank you for the fact that the forum has been here as a place that breeders have been able to discuss breed issues from all angles without the constraints that most would feel if Hereford Talk had been affiliated, or under the control of any official Hereford Association or Society. Perhaps that wasn't your original purpose for the forum; but I, for one, have been very grateful for having been a part of Hereford Talk from time to time.
My mother has a saying that is appropriate here, and that is: "It is better to light a candle that to curse the darkness.". For better or worse, this forum has been an important light that many, including official Hereforddom (whether they admit it or not), follow and keep an eye on. This is because large amounts of Hereford breed specific information, ideas, and history are easily exchanged here, even though terrific arguments and differences in opinions can and do sometimes occur. With that in mind, it would be great if there was a way to help to change your mind on closing the forum, especially considering the loss of all of the information, ideas and history that are currently stored here and that, in turn, will be gone at the end of this month.
On my end, there has been little to report, which accounts for the reason that I have had nothing to contribute to the forum in the last few months. That said, I think, that 2020 will be an interesting year for the breed on the genetics end of things.
Thank you again for the opportunity that your forum has given us as Hereford people from around the world, to come together in one place in order to communicate more freely and easily. And, the best of luck with you in your future endeavors.
Happy New Year.
Sincerely;
Steven W. Pollestad (Woodford)

I'm with George, from the historical side the forum should stay open. I also believe there's still a place on the world wide web for a stand alone Hereford site so if you close this one down I'll start another one, save me trouble and keep this one going.

Good Morning/Afternoon Glenn,
Please allow me to echo the sentiments of the above posts. I too have found HT a most worthwhile medium to exchange ideas, thoughts and information. For this I extend my heartfelt thanks.
HT has played a far greater role than you or other contributers could ever imagine in the redirected focus of my particular campaign.
In Australia, refocusing ones breeding programme to one based on line breeding is a somewhat lonely journey. Your website has been both a source of inspiration/encouragement and education.
I don't believe a lack of posting activity reflects a lack of interest, especially in my case (sometimes it is better advised to keep ones mouth shut and learn from others far greater qualified than myself).
I agree with George whole heartedly, the archived knowledge and information stored within is immense.
I thank you for your efforts (and hope you change your mind).
Many Thanks and Best Regards. Sudsy Sutherland.

I hate to see this sight go, I haven't here for very long but have spent a lot of time looking through the sight before ever joining. I agree that there is a ton of information here that would be a shame to lose.

Just a quick note to tell everyone that I have been overwhelmed with PM's, emails, texts, and phone calls. I am not ignoring any of you. I am just continuing to think about it all. I appreciate all the offers of help and how much the site means to some of you. I promise to keep everyone posted on what all is going on. I will also try to start responding to the PMs and emails. I haven't been ignoring anyone. Just not sure of the correct response at this time. Please bear with me.

I very much appreciate the sight and can only imagine the added stress that being the Administrator adds. Thanks for starting it and I am with the others on the amount of information gained and people and friends. Thanks again.
If there happens to be another sight opened I would like to join also.

To para-phrase Thomas Jefferson: Given my choice between an Association with no Hereford talk, or Hereford Talk with no Association I would certainly choose the latter of the two! Glenn you are a great Hereford patriot and have made great contributions to the Hereford breed by providing a "real source" for Hereford news and discussion. Hereford breeders are blasted with fake news from "official sources" and Hereford Talk needs to continue provide a filter. I hope you will reconsider your plans for "Happy Trails" and will "COWBOY UP" and remain as moderator. Great men take on great challenges. Stay the course!

I’d like to add my comments to those above - I have enjoyed very much reading Hereford Talk and have learned a great deal from it, especially about managing cattle under different climatic conditions from ours, and how others deal with the problems that affect us all wherever we are. Whatever you decide Glenn, thank you!
