I thought I could share this with you as I feel I have made many friends on this site. Yesterday my dear wife was helping me load some steers and a bull onto my truck to take to market. She was outside the yards at the bottom of the loading race and as the bull refused to walk up the ramp I asked her to hit him with a piece of polypipe to hurry him up a bit. When she did he lashed out with his hind leg through the rails and broke her leg so badly that she is at this moment waiting to under go surgery to have a plate and screws inserted to repair the damage. I just wanted to share this with you as I know at least for myself I can become to lax as to safety and take things and one another for granted.

Hope all goes well and best wishes for a full and healthy recovery.
It seems like every time I hear of someone getting hurt, it comes at that moment when we drop our guard just a bit and fail to pay attention to what the situation is telling us. A good reminder that we deal with very stout strong animals that can inflict injury with or without intent at a moments notice. It's probably happened to us all at some point.

Larso, Wishing your wife a speedy recovery. I've got a plate and 3 screws myself. Recovery can be frustrating. Be a good nurse!!

So sorry to hear that! It is really easy to get into trouble fast when dealing with 1000 lb. plus animals. I almost made a mistake myself this week. Prayers for your wife's speedy recovery!

Sounds like something that a black critter bull would do. Hope he wasn't a Hereford. My best wishes to your lady for a successful surgery, a speedy recovery and all ok after !!

I am so sorry I hope everything goes well. It's common sense but worth mentioning a little extra milk and calcium never hurts. I broke my wrist on the ice last winter had pain until I found some milk I really loved came in a glass bottle couple of extra bottles and all of a sudden my wrist stopped hurting. Best of luck

After years of putting everybody's needs before hers, it's now time for me to step up to the plate. Ranchers wives are really the unsung heroes of any enterprise.
