Now, if I could just see his EPDs, I'd know if he was a herd bull prospect or not! He looks like he's turned out great, Harley! I assumed you put him to work from your comment. I wish there was a means to get semen imported to the US from SA. George

George, it looks like it may very well soon be possible to export semen to the USA. He was used hard in the commercial herd (at 15 months of age), ran with 42 cows on very dry veld and is doing a three week clean up on 27 registered females now after I've taken 0917 out to fatten for a show. There is a lot to like about the bull, but his sire line's hindlegs isn't as good as I would have prefered so I wanted to see some calves first before really using him on in the registered herd. 0917 is the far superior bull in my opinion anyway.

No, I haven't used him. The Semex rep messed up my order and the semen that was 20 minutes away from me for 3 months somehow got sent to a friend of mine on the other side of the country and they couldn't get another batch in in time so I told them to shove it where the sun don't shine.

I know its not the best pic, but it was taken to illustrate why the selection for proper eyeset is so important to us. The reason why I posted the pic is because this bullcalf is out of the same cow as the 0926 bull at the top of this thread and sired by a halfbrother of 0917 that I am using again this season. Unfortunately its again one of those cases where I have a very promising bullcalf, but with almost no eye pigment even though both his sire and dam have full pigment. Things like this is making breeding herefords so much more difficult than some other breeds.

Yes I have seen the 0917 bull just didnt remember the tag number. I think he is a better bull also. do the calves have eye pigment Harley? If he is out breeding himself then I would use him as much as possibble. Very nice.
What frame are they? I like the little calf he is a little chunck.
