No censored words (yet)! I hope to get more and more Hereford folks on board where we can honestly exchange ideas and thoughts without malice and with out the bullshit (well there I go) from the Hereford bashers on some of the other sites.
Any of you members are free to pass the link along to parties you think may be interested.

Ken, I think you should just tell us which lots you're going to bid on! ;D
Glad you joined! And keep posting those pictures and making me wish I was back living in Colorado!

With as many L1 breeders it seems there is, the last thing you would expect to hear is breeders being short on choices. I guess it comes down to there's really only a hand full of truly great breeding bulls out there, L1's or others.

I'm getting ready to semen test 12 bulls I have leaving tomorrow. They sold to a family that was featured on the American Rancher a few weeks ago. I heard they run around 4,500 cows. It's starting to snow now but I'm not complaining because we need the moisture bad. Gordon Jamison has been a great mentor to me since I got into this registered stuff and I'm honored to now call him a partner in some herd bulls, a travel buddy and a good friend. Gordon is as good a man as can be found. He's very religious, honest and has great integrity. Gordon and Gino Pedretti have been my main two mentors. One thing none line one breeders might not think about is how hard it is for us to find a good out cross within the line one genetics available. It's getting awfully hard for me to get away from 767, 824 and 484. It's a good thing 767 is a bull that can be stacked in pedigrees without ill effects because he's everywhere. That's not a bad thing just kind of a problem for us line one breeders. The Miles City herd is not near as uniform and consistent and one might think. It takes a lot of pedigree studying and searching to find a bull from their that won't set you back. It is an experiment station and they haven't always bred for things progressive breeders would breed for. You can find some great ones once and awhile but the run of the mill Miles city bull is certainly nothing special. It doesn't seem many have heard of him but Clayton Herbel in Kansas knows the Miles City herd better than anyone alive. He has a herd of line bred line one cows that would blow you away. I'm doing a lot of rambling, sorry. I have around 8 286 daughters and like them OK. 286 helps udders, ads pigment and muscle. I'd give his ability to transmit fleshing ability a fair. His sons seem to be more moderate than his daughters. I have a 286 son that is a frame 5 meat wagon. He seems to moderate more than his sire but he throws a little extra birth weight. I better go get ready for the vet. I thought you had a Miles City bull? How do you like him? If memory serves me I think I really liked the looks of him on some of your posts at Ranchers.

99496 was a big reason that I made the trip up to Ken's place. I liked the cattle I'd seen videos and pictures of that Cooper and Holdens had by him, particularly the 3113 bull. I don't know if I've ever shared these pictures taken at Kens: I've got 20 straws of 99496 semen from Ken that I'm holding to use in the right situation. Actually, I thought I'd already use it by now, but the Hammer bull has addressed the depth of body so well on the Pure Gold daughters, I'm probably going to wear that cross out if these first daughters from the cross milk and breed back. 99496 in person just "oozed" that easy fleshing look - and he appears to pass it on. I tried to buy a daughter in one of Holden's sales but my pockets weren't deep enough. George

George, not trying to be an ass here, and I can not remember if it was just the Pure Gold offspring I seen it in, and it could be just the pics, but there's a couple pics of heifers you've posted that have a rib attachment/shoulder problem that this bull looks like he would help you a lot in. I'd use him now if it were me.

Sorry George, I should have done this in a PM or email, dang satellite internet service would not let me connect quick enough to erase it because it raining here. bottom picture looks the cow could use a little help in that area. It may just be the lighting on the heifer pics you've posted. I should just keep my nose out of other folks business.

I'm always interested to learn - and I've noticed people's "pet peeves" differ. On top of that I'm not trying to sell anything. Here is that bottom cow as a heifer: Do you still see the same thing? Nope, she looks good there, better light and less shadow with the extra conditioning helps. It's just me, ignore me I'll eventually go away.

Actually, I think what you're seeing and the heifers/cows you're seeing it in are descendants of my Direction bull. I don't think the connection between the shoulders and ribs in some of them is smooth enough - and I also think they have the appearance of being a little pinched in the heartgirth - but I think there's a lot of Remitall bred cattle that have that same appearance. Some of the Pure Golds have a bit of a pencil gutted appearance - especially if they aren't fat. George

Paul, I'd appreciate it if you could point out specifically what you are seeing and in which pictures you're seeing it in. But we probably ought to take it to PM or start another thread here, so we don't continue to hi-jack this Jamison thread. George

I got my catalog in mail today. I plan to go through it this evening after kids go to bed. I won't be going to sale as I have a medical appointment that I can't get rescheduled before year end on the 9th. If I have to have something, I'll have to bid online, I guess.
