Wow what a bloody mess!!! I tried cauterizing the horns with a hot iron but didn't seem to work. Sounded like it was searing and the iron was hot. I think this just made the bulls madder. The bleeding eventually just stopped on it's own (coagulation). It was a mess but the bulls seem totally fine. Much ado about nothing, I guess. The 2nd and 3rd one didn't get near as much horn taken off as the first as I was a little gun shy. I'll be interested to see the growth pattern of taken 1/3 off on two calves and 2/3 off on the first calf. Time will tell but I think I got the angles pretty decent.

It seems like the bleeding can vary a lot from year to year. I don't know if it has to do with the moon phase of what.? I know some wrap caltrate bands around the horns to help cut off the bleeding then take them off later. One band stretched around both horns.

always made me wish i had 100 to do.
cut the blood off however - then burn them.
a guy i worked for as a kid cut them and turned them loose and they quit bleeding on their own - he also used a sledge hammer to dehorn cows
my old man said never do it on a full moon and another guy told me always do it on a nice warm day. something to do with how blood is concentrated to core body in real cold and higher pressure - i don't know

Condice's Crystals will stop the blood, but wear gloves when plugging the horn sinus with the crystals, for some reason they react with blood and its a helluva exothermic reaction.
