It is an interesting article! Someone preaching moderation. Imagine that! The real quarrel that I have with the article is still the emphasis on EPDs. When it comes to the EPDs of 100% of the Hereford females, I simply do not believe they are accurate and you really should put zero faith in them as a selection tool. Finding those brood cows that best fit my environment is a process - and the EPD variation - in both milk and growth - of those that fit best can vary widely. So! How, then, can a breeder use EPDs as a selection tool?

I place about zero weight on EPDS in my selection process.
It was interesting to see an Angus publication actually preaching some common sense but alas very few paid much attention(it was a 1997 article).
