happened? >>>From the Sept 1, 2014 issue of High Plains Journal. Merrill Ranch hosts KLA/K-State Ranch Field Day quoting Dee Scherich, Merrill Ranch manager: "Until 1997 the cows were mostly Herefords, and after taking a beating by the market, the change to mostly black animals was made. In fact, we sold all of our Herefords bulls in one year and made a quick changeover, Scherich said. We've used a lot of Gardiner Angus influence in our cows since '97. SOME OF OUR COWS, I'M SORRY TO SAY, ARE BIGGER THAN WHAT WE'D LIKE TO HAVE, BUT IF YOU BUY A CALF THAT SHOWS GOOD GROWTH, YOU'RE GOING TO GET BIG COWS."<<<< especially you K-State guys? ??

We were there and I thought about piping up and saying "The cross will work both ways and you can have the hybrid vigor kick again Dee" but as you indicated I did not have enough nerve. I have told Dee this privately and I think they are surely considering it. They had their calf buyer make some comments also. We know him somewhat and I told him afterword I would have given him $100 if he would have said they needed more baldies in the calves and Jane offered him a very big gift basket.

Probably the question I should have asked is: Dee, Are you going to continue with straight Angus genetics or are you going to crossbreed again to take advantage of hybrid vigor? I think that would have resulted in a positive answer. Sorry I let us down.I would say I am too slow of thinker on my feet but I was sitting down.
