Thanks for all the kind words. In the left ear is a Corathon fly tag. In this next picture is a break down of all fly tags, it's just FYI if anyone is interested.

In the picture of 203 and her bull calf (pretty handy I might say) is that flies I can see on their backs, is that what your trying to control?

This tag along with back rubbers and mineral with IGR are all attempts to control the face fly, horn fly, and stable fly. Couple years ago the gulf coast tick was the major problem and tags helped deter them as well. Not sure if that chart helped anyone or not but it shows what each tag will do. Here is a video that may help in understanding the types of fly and different management options.

Guess I'm dumb. I just sold my whole heifer crop out of 847U........ I feel for you glenn its hard to hold on with the thought of could they become something when good money is staring you in the face. Sold heifers not to long ago for $2.04 and they didn't look that good. With prices like that it make you toy with the idea of getting rid of some good ones

Yeah, my CPA side has a hard time turning down a buck. Good $ plus the heifers being slightly less than I had hoped for tipped the scales to 'sell'. I am having a hard time getting my 'program' moving as I haven't been able to keep much more than a few head each year.
On a side note I had my first run in with ticks at my new 'north lease'. It has been a world class train wreck.

Nice Hereford cattle, they are looking good. 164 must be a favorite since she is in 3 different pictures. 169 is a heck of a heifer as well. Hope you got a good price for those good steers.

Haha. 164 is actually not my favorite but she is okay, I was just trying to get some decent pictures and she happen to be standing around. The pictures were originally taken to put up in my daughters room. Only a couple made the cut. 169 is by far my favorite heifer calf and 170 is by far my favorite steer calf.

Oh and the cattle are looking very good, Chris.

Mick: Tremendous set of calves. I really like the 169 heifer. Could you identify which of your herd bulls sired which calves. Your calves sure rival several registered outfits I have seen the past few years. Will your herd be on the KHA tour in 2015?? If you have not been asked yet, the planners should give your herd serious consideration.

I was gonna call you the other day. Was curious how your 38T son and your new Anderson bull were doing. Was thinking about using 38T in the future. Moon you have a new PM

920 is a sure fire breeding bull. Progeny look very useful.
To answer your questions, 85Y by 38T acclimated very well and did not melt when introduced to fescue and humidity even though he did not arrive in Arkansas until early April 2013, and went out with cows approx. 2 weeks later. Slicked off extremly well and majority of calves are slick as well. Will wean first calves in October, and thus far birth weights higher than I like, and throwing more chrome than expected, but exceptional performance. Pigment is inconsistent. I will update as bulls calves are developed, but long suit is most likely going to be the females.
The Anderson bull, 266Z, had more hair than anticipated but shed off much better than expected. He held up very well and no melt as he did not get here until April 12, 2014. Dark in color and short marked. His breeder recommended him as a heifer bull both in the catalog and in conversation prior to the sale. Scanned 1.27 REA per 100 lbs. He was put in with all of the Spring heifers beginning May 4, 2014. He will get all of the Fall heifers in late November along with some mature cows. Will not know anything else until heifers calve and then pivotal questions can be answered. Will keep you informed as soon as they start hitting the ground.
Been very lucky with bulls acclimating. Lost my 22T son from Gus, so looking at a bull at a different Canadian breeder for 2015.
