ethanol is not a perfect product by any stretch but with one swoop of the pen the US Government lost control of its long standing "suppress the market and flood the supply line so food is always cheap" policy.
Corn will be high this year. Those who started feed efficiency measures like getting crossbred cows and selling F1 cross calves 3-5 years ago will benefit. Hereford steers should benefit although right now the choice-select spread is real high. The ones who thought "glad we got through that" last time the corn market got high are the ones who will really pay.
As breeders of the most efficient cattle in the world we need to take advantage of this and use it to our benefit.
As far as ethanol goes, it is here to stay and with the rate they are tearing up grassland out here there won't be enough ethanol used even at a 20% mandate in 10 years. Can't say I like it but I can say that is the way it is.

Makes me glad to be raising and selling efficient Hereford cattle.
