I think new members should introduce themselves, I liked it when we all knew each other, that way discussions were always kept civil without the need for a moderator.

I started out with a show heifer back in 2007 and I have been growing one calf at a time ever since. I love this breed and what it has done for me. I am located around Hutchinson KS

My name is Greg Schlickau I am the son of Bruce Schlickau I started my own herd in 2005 and have been growing one calf at a time ever since. I am located outside of Hutchinson KS and go to school in Pretty Prairie. I don't mind being told the truth, but if I disagree be prepared for me to say something back. I throw the second punch never the first. I am a nice guy to get along with and love Hereford cattle as much as the next guy.

I'm currently from extreme SW KS. Was raised on ranches in NM and the TX Panhandle. Started showing hereford heifers when I was 13. Have been out of the cattle business for sometime. But have kept an eye on it and continued to follow Herefords when I could. The Harlands were 40 miles from me so kept up with the progress and changes by watching their herd. Recently I've became involved with helping manage a herd of cows. They are good angus cows with age. I'm planning on moving to west central OK. I've just been reading the posts on the forum trying to become better informed about the choices available in the Hereford market today. I will make a specific post asking some a questions and seeking some opinions soon.

Tumbling Run Farm Strasburg, VA. 22657
I am the manager Matthew Frye, not the actual owner. We just purchased an amazing SHF RIBEYE M326 R117 cow yesterday at the Virginia Hereford Sale. She was the top selling cow in the sale. We also purchased a great grand daughter of DR WORLD CLASS 517 10H. This World Class granddaughter is bred back to NJW 98S DURANGO 44U. We will be using a lot of sires from the KCF, SHF, and NJW prefixes in the near future as our herd continues to grow.

Larso, I believe that bull is working for Rohlfling in IL? Look him up, but the Trust mated to Catalina 24H should make great calves for you.

I have inquired about him, but the AI centre sent a short answer back " Not for export". I don;t know whether that's because the owners aren't interested or the bull wont past the export tests, but I do know a few guys who are keen to have a look at him. There could be some $,s to be made.

Sudsy Sutherland. Sans Peur Herefords. Quandialla. NSW. Australia. Situated just south of central NSW. Approx 450 kms west of Sydney, 250 kms north of Canberra. Both registered and commercial herd. Registered cows run with the commercial cows. No easy run or soft options given. Breeding Program: Very little reliance on EBV's (your equivalent EPD's), No flushing, Very little AI (3 years since last AI program), cows are predominately joined naturally in order to assess fertility. Have just commenced a line breeding program 3 years ago, expecting 2nd generation of such next autumn (your spring). All cattle grass reared and finished - which can prove to be quite challenging at times. We follow the principles of Gerald Wyatt with regard to our cattle breeding, and to a lesser extent John O'Brien. Both these gentleman are quite similar to your Gerald Fry, Lasater and South Africas' Jan Bonsma. We select for the following criteria: Lineal Measurement, (especially heart girth due to grass fed regime), High buttterfat component in the milk, high degree or level of hormonal activity in the beast, and possibly meat tenderness in the very near future. Medium frame cows, with no extreme traits of growth, weight for age, muscle, milk, IMF. We don't push the envelope in any aspect, herefords are what they are. We are of the opinion that to concentrate on extreme or highly enhanced attributes will have an antagonistic effect on other attributes. We are seeking a highly efficient female herd with the ability to turn off 450 kg steers/heifers somewhere between 12 to 14 months for the domestic market, we want the steer off the farm before his/her younger brother/sister is looking for their first mouthful of grass. Farm is run following the guidelines of Alan Savory, Holistic Management. Our aim is to grow more grass, than produce an animal to make full use of that grass. I don't expect to many to agree with our program, however I would take a lot of convincing to adopt some other program.
Look forward to future readings on this site. I find some of the conversations most interesting and rewarding. By the way I was introduced to this site by my good friend Peter Larson - Larso.

Welcome Sudsy, wondered why it's taken you so long to join up. I'm just wondering if I should warn Glen to have his referee out fit ready, Quandialla boys are not known for taking a backward step!!!!

link Thanks, I'm glad u like my music videos! I will tell about my Breeding since u like the story. I Started with a group of Polled cows (with NO Felton or Remitall lines). I ran a Canadian & a Line1 bull side by side & My calves by the old Voyageuer bull outgrew the calves by the L1 sire. so then I kept back my Horned Victor Domino bull I raised. Then my next move was Purchasing WSF Diamond Boy 31L from Morley Wilson of Darlingford, MB. He had a spook problem that carried through in half his calves. So my next move was using some pet sires to take the spook out of those Diamond calves. Then I Purchased J Bar E Britisher N22 from Arvid Eggen. While he was breeding naturally I bred 2 Diamond Heifers AI with Britisher Wetmore AGA 50Y who sired PWB Wet Diver (who I kept till he was 7) & PWB Brit Channel Swimmer (who I sold possession to Keith Lapp). However I was soooo overjoyed with the Genetic combination of Wet Diver on my N22 daughters that I decided 2get more Old sires & Bulls from England & Australia 2 generate a new bloodline. This year I raised some ET calves by JC Mo Le 14F 719 & a Heifer calf by DVH Britisher M 55D. Yesterday I had a group of heifers AI bred 2 the following Sires... DVH Britisher M 55D, Kimbltn Std Lad 22Y, Braxton Beau 64, & JC Mo Le 14F 719.

I was excited to find this forum a couple weeks ago as I did a internet search. I am not sure how I didn't find this sight before now. The threads I have read have been very interesting and helpful, and I look forward to reading more. My name is Jonathan Johansen. I am 35 years old and in the same year that I was born, my father Craig started the purebred herd known as Johansen Herefords. Previous to that time, the family raised commercial Herefords since the 1940's. Our purebred herd began with a small group of Line One cattle. Soon after, we were lucky enough to purchase a L1 domino 77618 son (Arrow CL1 Dom 2204) from Carlson Herefords. He helped our program greatly. Our purchase of a select group of females from the Carpenter-Williams dispersion laid the foundation for our herd moving forward. At that sale, we also purchased a herd bull C Yampa Baron 49. He helped add length and was a very maternal herd sire. Since that time, we have purchased additional herd bulls from Carlson Herefords along with herd bulls and females from Rock Creek Herefords, Holden Herefords, Cooper Herefords, Baker Herefords, and Strang Herefords (Line One outcross). Currently we run 90 head of mother cows in Central Utah in the Colorado Plateau and the Manti Lasalle mountain range. We run between EL 5600' and EL 10,000' with an average rainfall of 9 inches of rain per year. The bulls are PAP scored and the purebred cow herd is ran just like the commercial herd ran over 35 years ago. The cows must be easy fleshing, hardy, sure-footed, and functional to survive in our arid environment. Currently our genetics consist of herd bulls sired by CL 1 Domino 860, L1 domino 03571, Cl 1 Domino 0145, and L1 Domino 08469. We are using HH Advance 1098, HH Advance 8019, and HH Advance 0002 in our AI program. Our current maternal grandsires are CL 1 Domino 9126, HH Advance 0024, CL 1 Domino 484, and HH Advance 026. I could go on and on, but I will spare you. If anyone is interested in learning more about us, we were recently spotlighted by Certified Hereford Beef @ eyeofthewhiteface.org/2014/02/28/rancher-spotlight/and we can be found @ www.johansenherefords.com@joeherefords (Twitter) And JOHANSENHEREFORDS (Instagram) Below are photos of a couple of our current herd bulls. Hey, my name is Matt and I am a fairly new "farmer"! I have been running some black baldy's for freezer beef for the last 5 or 6 years over here in western NY, however recently purchased some registered stock out of IN, as well as some out of MI.
I am a 100% grass fed farm and hoping to learn some breeding tricks from you guys to make a nice herd to sell some calves and finished beef.
Thanks, -Matt
