They always say what a great cow his dam is, I can't remember one bull calf she's the dam of, that's made an impact anywhere, could be I'm not looking hard enough, they sell for good money though. Calf looks all right, looks to me like his rear leg set is a little off, sheaths a little sloppy, could use a little more depth. He does have some muscle, good length and I like his head.

Not to change the subject, just wondering out loud, what would my calves look like fed all the grain they could eat from the day they were born like this calf has had, and what would he look like on my place with no grain.

He's a pretty decent prospect, I also don't like his sheath and agree a touch more chest depth and overall more capacity would certainly have made him a better grass bull, but he is well muscled, moves pretty well and has some bone. Would like to have seen more pigment though.

Yeah, I definitely would have liked to have seen more depth of body on him. If he had that, I'd probably bid on him - even though I would have preferred a different pedigree/sire. They also don't mention his actual BW.
But I easily like him better than 90% of the prospects that they sold in their regular October sale this year....maybe all of them.

Actual BW of 95 pounds. He had 4 flushmates - 2 bulls with actual BWs of 89 and 87 pounds - 2 heifers with actual BWs of 89 and 87 pounds, also.
No scrotal or scan measurements.

I like him. I agree though he's not perfect, but i think he is one of the better balancing star lake bulls i've seen video of. (excluding the ones that bring 10k +)

To Herefords.us? ?? No, I never could reconcile adding in his sire's genetics to the mix - and the fact that he had the biggest actual BW of all the ET flushmates didn't help either. Definitely a good bull for that price IMNTBHO - depending on whether the BW isn't a big problem, of course. George |
