I’m sure it will be a very worthwhile event to go to Wonderfull country and great people The timing is a little off for many in our area of western Canada. It falls right at calving time for many, as well as Calgary and Medicine Hat Bull Sale dates. So also the same week as the Cooper and Holden Bull sales. But I’m sure it will be an enjoyable time for those who do get there

I am seriously considering making the trip. Apart from networking with Hereford people from all around the world, there is a lot we can learn by visiting farms in other regions. To survive in farming these days, we have to be at the top of our game. The Kiwis have a reputation for being very good grazers and there is no substitute from learning from the best.

Great country to visit Paul, the Kiwis are very intervative and good farmers, along with that very genuine friendly people . I think it would be well worth the trip.

As soon as they build that bridge where I could drive there, I would have interest in going. LOL
My Dad did R&R there in WW II, coming off of Guadalcanal. He always talked about how much he enjoyed New Zealand and its people - and he always wanted to go back, but never did.

After what happened in the "oops" thread, it is clear that Kansas City is monitoring Hereford talk. Let's take care of the issues now, so that we can enjoy ourselves in New Zealand and not have a cloud hanging over us.

Unless the results of the purity study are released, I doubt the WHC will be proactive in addressing the issues that plague the breed and held it back.

Unless the results of the purity study are released, I doubt the WHC will be proactive in addressing the issues that plague the breed and held it back. I really can't see where this new study gonna say anything different than the Taylor study already released, the response from the AHA was a mention in a Hereford World and a note from the CHA and that was the end of it, they basically ignored it and it went away.

I think the more science is involved with answering questions of parentage, the better all breeds will do in preventing future errors. I have to applaud Peter and Steven for their dedication to truth. Their research effort may not be the definitive answer to the question of what is Hereford and what is not, but it is certainly moves us forward. At some point the AHA board will be forced to recognize that the breed in the US today is genetically divergent from true Herefords as a result of erroneous registrations. At that point, the AHA board will declare the mush we see today is an Americanized Hereford, declare victory, and move on. The World Hereford Conference is so fringe that it is already irrelevant. As far as I can tell it's only reason to exist is a free travel plan for a select few.

If you read the reports in the national Breed Journals about the World Hereford Conference from 1950 to 2018 which I have done for 3 continents, what you will see is that they are mostly "social report" with some reports on papers presented at the Conference. What has NEVER been reported to Members are the decisions of the "closed" meeting behind the Conference where ONLY THE DELEGATES are permitted to attend. Yet it is those meetings that chart the direction of the breed. WHY are they not reported? I have my opinion, you form yours!!!.
And while on the subject of the World Hereford Council, are you aware their accounts aren't audited. I managed to get hold of a set and there is was. A Statement to say there weren't. Why did one of breed societies say they were and why did they not retract it when it was pointed out to them?
Sorry, I wont be going to the WHC as I don't have "Club Membership". If you are after a tax deduction fro business travel you would learn far more by lining up some herds and travelling to NZ (and Aus) to visit them.

It’s Tuesday morning here in New Zealand, the opening reception was last night. I got to meet a lot of passionate and warm. Hereford people from around the world. I takes to some people from South Africa, they said Hoekland is doing well. In my chats with the New Zealand breeders, I get the sense that they are focused on beef production and market most of their calves like their customers. As for the conference, itself I have the feeling that Peter is right that the issues of substance will be discussed behind closed doors and not in the interests of the breed at large.

How well is the US represented?

Not well. Jack Ward and Dale Venhuizen are the delegates from the AHA. There are 11 Canadians and around 20 Americans here. Jack was on a panel discussion on EPDs and I was able to ask him about my issues with the way half the breed is considered inferior. Regardless of how you feel about the issue, Jack didn’t handle it well. I have made my issues well known prior to the WHC. The WHC discussions should be posted on the internet.
