So good to hear you are getting some moisture Harley. We can report the mosquitoes survived our drought in good shape. We just moved a little set of cows and the mosquitoes about carried us off.

Although our storms are maybe not as dramatic as in other parts of the world, Scottish farmers, especially in the west, are really struggling just now. It may be the end of May but it's no warmer than it was in February and we are still coping with very wet and windy conditions. There is currently a severe weather warning for Scotland tomorrow night for very high winds and heavy rain, and maximum temperatures are still around 10 degrees C, so there has been very little grass growth. Many people have cattle still in buildings and even sheep are still being fed even if outside. We are also looking at the possibility of very light or non existent hay crops. Fortunately we made a lot of forage last year and still have some left but it is not very good quality - and we are lucky that our Herefords can survive on very little. It seems that weather patterns are changing in most parts of he world! I have always wondered why you have to keep cattle inside in The British Isles. Is it the mud? 10 degrees C is about 37 degrees F isn't it. I tried to put some cows and calves in in eastern Oklahoma in similar weather many years ago and got into more health problems than the ones outside. I realize there is nothing much colder than a rain just above freezing.

Got our first rain today in a little over 2 months. A half inch. Unfortunately we have pretty mush missed out on the critical timing for this growing season. Grass has been going backwards for weeks and won't make a hay crop this year At least we should be able to come up with something for green feed I,m hoping. Oh the joys of making a living on the whims and grace of Mother Nature.

Our ground is nothing but mud. About like walking on fresh goose crap. And we have missed the heavy rain. Yesterday we had 0.75" and 5 miles north they had 4-5" in 4 hours. 20 miles north they had up to 7" in the same time period. Rained again today. The last few years some of the bigger and better managers have started raising cereal rye and chopping it in mid-May. No way to get a chopper in the field now and the rye is starting to turn white. I would like to spray pastures for weeds but can't get a tractor across them. Have been building fence but can't get the skid steer around to pound pipe in the ground. I guess every area has its' own set of problems.

I know it seems asinine to complain about rain on grass, but it is raining again this morning. As we get older it is harder to change the plans you have to get something done. And to be successful we all have to take on more and that makes getting things done on schedule more important. I guess it is time to take out the pictures from 2012 and previous droughts and remember that sitting inside watching it rain may be the best wages we can make.

Just like those in the south that just went through this it would be nice if we could control the weather and send some of it your way! It's pretty saturated around here right now, creeks and rivers went of their banks overnight, water standing in fields and ditches, really could use a break so things can dry out. We've had hay ready to mow for a couple weeks now but can't get enough dry days between rains lately to get it down and baled without being rained on.
