I've been watching all the school district projections about how much they are going to have to cut - Dallas ISD is projecting they will have to cut $250 million from their budget. Arlington is talking of laying off every teacher with 3 years or less employment with the district.
Our house up in Little Elm costs us $300 a month in Frisco ISD taxes alone, plus the county and other taxes. My business here in Stephenville costs us about the same in local school taxes for the building and inventory. I sympathize - but truthfully I can't see how we can pay much more. Business just hasn't been that good over the last 2-3 years.
The governments are now doing what all businesses had to do a couple of years ago to survive. Our store staff had to be reduced by 25% - we now have 6 where we used to have 8.
I've got a December college graduate, with a business degree, still working for me that can't find a job using her degree. She's been working for me for 4 years while she went to school, has a great work ethic, is super sharp, and attractive. I'm amazed! The only time I can remember it being anywhere close to the way it is right now was in the mid 70's - and I think it's worse now than then for the folks graduating college.
