I would have to sell another couple of $18000 bulls to afford to, but it certainly is a goal of mine.

I would love to visit Danny's, yours, Georges( as long as he was nice to me, can't work out how to put a smiley face on here.) all you guys who seem to be breeding cattle that are the real deal. Not necessity the ones who are breeding for the show ring. The view of New York out the plane window would be enough for me.

The view of New York out the plane window would be enough for me. I hear that! I've never been back east and really have no desire to go.

This is a painting I have in my living room. I admired it for years before I finally broke down and bought it.

The artist has certainly captured the isolation and harshness of the landscape. Every painting should evoke some feelings from the observer that cannot be felt from a photo. This one has it in spades.

Thanks for the response, I have always found if I paint a landscape with Herefords or a horse in it I don't have any trouble selling it. Wish it was that easy selling Hereford bulls to commercial Angus breeders.

Larso I like any painting with Herefords in it. I found one I liked but it hod one black baldie and I didn't buy it. And regarding the selling of Hereford bulls to Angus breeders I see a lot more of it around here. At least 2-3 times the Hereford bulls that there was last year in this area and I can't and won't comment about other areas. The main thing slowing it up is the quality and lack of muscling in the polled bulls being offered in this area. And some are stating the trend by several of the breeders in this area to the shorter, compact type is also keeping them from changing. I'm seeing some good quality, well muscled Horned bulls with 5-6 frames showing up in herds that had been straight black for several years. There have been two good polled bulls that showed up in a herd in this area. I've only found one polled breeder within 100 miles raising the commercial kind of polled bull with good muscling and at least a 5 frame. When going horned you have more options. The other drawback going Polled Hereford here is when you find that well muscled bull most of the time they label him a herd bull prospect and ask 8-12 thousand. Many of those breeders with pure black cows are going to horned bulls. But so many have black cows but tried at least some of the exotics in the past so get at least a percentage of horns on the calves if they use a horned bull. And as one man stated he used to dehorn but now that he hasn't for so many years he doesn't want to go back. I'm thinking seriously about a Horned bull and dehorning. I did look at a herd yesterday with some nice polled bulls that will be offered in a fall sale. They have Feltons 242 close up so go back to Titan 23D. I'm rethinking my thoughts about that but to this point haven't decided to change my mind. So in my opinion there is potential for Herefords especially Polled Herefords to make a great move in this area if the good quality type of bull and cow is offered. The one polled breeder I know offering good quality bulls seems to be staying sold out by private treaty. A breeder down the road 30 miles has bulls for sale and has to take some to sales to move them. I know many of the commercial breeders I'm talking to share my views. They want to change but can't find the reasonably priced commercial type bull that will produce a calf that will perform. I know someone stated something similar a while back in a post when discussing his buyers . The one improvement I've noticed in about every Hereford herd I've been in is the udders and teats and also no bad eyes. I remember in the 60's and 70's when I would visit a breeder many times I would see at least a few with big bell teats and either a bad eye or a eye that had been removed. I haven't seen either so far in my visits this year. I've seen more bad udders on Angus cows than I have on Herefords. Hope you find a good market for your cattle. The opportunity is there it just depends on if enough breeders choose to seize it or choose to continue to follow the latest fads.

Interesting style! Next to breeding Hereford cattle, western art is probably my greatest passion. I have owned a custom picture framing store for over 30 years and we have worked with a number of great artists in that time. I turned over the daily management of the store to my eldest daughter back in 1997, but I still get to see a number of great works of art pass through the store.
